retrieving data from old Excel formats

I have a set of Microsoft Excel for Macintosh 1.x files that I would like to
retrieve the data from and the current version of Excel 2002 SP3 on XP does
not import this file type.

I've looked for information on the Microsoft site but I have not found
anything - I do realise that I'm going back to the late 80s !

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Many thanks, Paul

Good try - the message stating that the file can't be opened has changed
subtly but it still won't open it - what is needed is a list of file formats
that can be supported by the current Excel and I would imagine is that Excel
for Macintosh 1.x may not be supported.

Many thanks for your help - this approach looked really promising.

Thanks, Paul
