How about if you open both workbooks in one instance of excel?
Cheryl wrote: In one case, the original cell has 2696 characters (including spaces) and the pasted cell has 255 characters (including spaces), so it's cutting off most of it. And yes, I'm copying and pasting from Excel to Excel. I have two instances of the program open simultaneously. Going from Excel to Word to Excel does seem to work. Why? It adds an extra step that I'd like to avoid if possible, but if this is the only way, that's what I'll do. Sigh. Thanks for the suggestion. Bit confused, are you copying and pasting from Excel to Excel? Is not where are you copying from? I once have a similar problem, this might sound like a stupid suggestion, but try copying and pasting into word first, then copy from word and paste into excel. Also try PPT if that doesn't work. This once solve a similar issue I once had. hhhmm, did it work? "Cheryl" wrote: I have two spreadsheets, one dumped into Excel from another program and one I am creating by scanning the first and copying selected rows from it into the second. To do the copy and paste, I select the row I want to copy, highlight it, and hit cntl-c. I then go to the second spreadsheet, select the first cell in the row where I want to paste the row and hit cntl-v. This mostly works. The trouble is that some of the cells in each row contain several sentences and when I paste the row, the data in these cells is cut short. I then have to scan for cells that aren't complete and cut and paste them individually to make sure that all of the data is included. I have investigated the "Paste Special" option, but none of the choices seem applicable. The only one that actually pastes the row into individual cells, "Microsoft Excel 8.0 Format", still cuts off the data in a couple of cells. Is there any way I can cut and paste whole rows from one spreadsheet to another without losing data in individual cells? I am using Microsoft Office Excel 2003 with SP2 (part of Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003). Thank you, Cheryl -- Dave Peterson |
