I have a complex task that I think could be easy with a macro

The problem with that is I do not know the first thing about them. I am
trying to format about 250 cost sheets for my company, all with varied lines
of text/code I was wondering if someone knew or could create and outlined
macro that would allow me to do the following:
I would like to move a date string 3cells over and merge the cells so that
it will display properly
I was also wondering if I would be able to have the macro search for
specific strings and then modify them. I have tried the record macro method
which works ok if all the following costs sheets have the same data on the
same lines. If the macro could search for the string and then move it and
format it when found that would be ideal. like I said an outlined macro will
do just fine I could research and fill in the blanks (I think).I am basicly
looking for something that will give all of my cost sheets the same format by
moving the info around in a manner which my company has agreed on and not
deleting anything (which the record macro function does)

Thanks for all your help.
