Viewing multiple excel sheets
 

Okay, I know this is probably really simple, but it's driving me nuts! I
used to be able to have multiple excel sheets up and be looking at them and
able to place them anywhere on my screen I wanted. Now it doesn't matter how
many spreadsheets I have open, they all are only viewable "within" the one
viewing sheet. So yeah, I can compare mulitple sheets, but only within a
limited space, I like to be able to move things around, as if they are two
totally separate applications. Does anyone know how I can change this back
to the way it was? I have a PC (which is where the problem is), and I also
have Office for my mac (which works how I want it to). I'd greatly
appreciate any enlightenment on this aggravating problem. It's weird because
it all of a sudden started doing this, I don't know if it was an update or
what...

Click Window New Window to open new window(s)
Then arrange it to taste by clicking Window Arrange Tiled (say) OK

If you can manage it, multiple monitors is the way to go if you regularly
have to view multiple worksheets simultaneously.............

Well, it's already set to that. And all it does is put the two excel files
side by side, "within" the "one" main sheet...not what I wanted. Any other
suggestions? Thanks for trying though, I appreciate it!

Even with another monitor, it still won't let me open up the spreadsheets as
separate files...argh! I agree though, having two monitors is wonderful!

Maybe this tip from a Dave Peterson post on multiple instances?

Tools|Options|General|check Ignore other applications "

You don't say which version.
For 2007: Office Button (upper keft)
Excel Options (bottom right)
Advanced
Scroll down to "display" section
Check "Show all windows in taskbar"

For earlier versions:
Tools Options View
"show" section, check "Windows in Taskbar"

Now each spreadsheet will be in its own top-level window.
