in which folder can you save a .CSV file?
 

I am trying to save my e-mail addressbook as a .CSV file. When the save menu
opens, it lists a folder under the local disk (C:). But then when I try to
locate the file in order to import the addressbook, I can find no such folder
anywhere. I have tried using other folders unsuccessfully.

Hi

Assuming you are doing this from Excel, when you go to the file open
dialog you need to modify the "Files of type" dropdown at the bottom
from "All Microsoft Office Excel Files" to (easiest) "All Files (*.*)"
- this way the csv files will show up listed in the folder.

And yes, you can save csv files to anywhere you can save Excel files.

okay, your'e not going to believe this but, I tried to do as you suggested
and when I tried to select 'all files', there was no 'all files' listed! Is
that strange or what? Any other suggestions?

Any other file type options? You really want "Text files ", altho I
am surprised you don't have the "All files" option...

Not really, that I can see. Let me tell you exactly what it is I'm trying to
do and see if you can see what I'm doing wrong.
I want to export my address book from peoplepc e-mail account so that I can
cancel my account and then import that file to a new e-mail account. When I
click on that option, it opens excel w/ the info. I go to 'save as' and
where it says -save in, there is a file K6CLR1ER and it's a subfolder of the
local disk (C:). It will save in that folder, but when I try to find the
file to import it, I can't find it anywhere. So I just tried to save it in
other random folders and get an error message every time.

Change the "Save In" location to a "real" folder.

You say "there is a file K6CLR1ER and it's a subfolder of the.... ".
Files are not sub-folders. If the file is in fact being created, you
should be able to find it in Windows Explorer. It is not an Excel issue.
If you can't find the file, it is not being created, in which case the
"people pc" export routine is suspect.

There is no "All Files (*.*) " listed under FileSave AsFile Type so that is
not strange.

FileOpenFiles of Type has the "All Files (*.*) "

To save your email address book as a *.CSV file you must do that though Oulook,
which I assume is your email client.

With Outlook open, FileImport and ExportExport to a File and follow your
nose from there.

If you don't see the CSV extension make sure My ComputerToolsFolder
OptiuonsView has "show all file extensions" checked.

Have you looked at its help files to see how to export your addresses to *.csv
or other?

What has Excel got to do with exporting your address book to a *.csv file?

I have always just used my isp e-mail which is peoplepc. Yes, I've looked at
the help files to see how to export and that obviously isn't much help.
There is just a link to export the address book and when I click on it, it
opens excel and transfers the info to there. But when I try to save it,
there is where I have the original problem.

Ok

From peoplepc you choose to export the address book.

Excel opens and the info gets copied to an Excel worksheet.

Good so far.

You then go to FileSave AsSave As TypeCSV(comma delimited)*.csv

Give the file a name and "Save".

Now you can't find that *.csv file......is that correct?

Try saving as an Excel workbook into a known folder like My Documents and see if
you can find that.

If you do, open it and re-save as a *.csv to that folder.

I've done as you've suggested and then I try to open the file to resave it
and get the message 'cannot access the file'

I don't know what's going on there.

For sure you saved as an Excel *.xls workbook but get the "cannot access the
file" when you try to open it?

What else is included in the message?

From where are you trying to open the file? From FileOpen in a running
instance of Excel or from double-click in Explorer?

actually, I got it all figured out I think. I just needed to set up my
Outlook settings, first!
