Excel 2007 File Size
I am currently working on an issue with Excel 2007. I open a file that was
previously made with Excel 2003 and was only 1.7 MB but when I opened the file in Excel 2007 and clicked save the files size jumped to 2.43 MB. Now that I have done that when I try to open the file it takes about 10 minutes to open, if it opens at all. I have tried going into each sheet and deleting the empty cells as mentioned in other threads and it did reduce the size a little. It went from 2.43 MB to 2.26 MB. Is there any other way to reduce the file size? Saving them as .xslx files does reduce the size by half, but I cannot save the files as .xslx because some users are still on Office XP and 2003. The network also blocks them from downloading anything from the internet such as the compatibility update tp read the .xlsx files. |
Excel 2007 File Size
I believe that most fluctuations in file size from save to save have to do
with the state of compilation of the VB project. You didn't say whether you had one, but if so, you can reduce it by running Rob Bovey's Code Cleaner on it: http://www.appspro.com/Utilities/CodeCleaner.htm You'll find that the file size savings you can through running this goes away over time as the project becomes more and more compiled. As for the slow opening problem, it may be that you've hit the Excel 2007 'double-click' the file bug. A workaround is to open Excel and open the file from Excel's File, Open dialog. -- Jim "Brianatwork" wrote in message ... |I am currently working on an issue with Excel 2007.
