Excel as database
 

Hi Excel Expert,

Can I use excel to keep my data for example laboratory daily sample
result.Can I use worksheet 1 as a form to enter result and worksheet 2
where my data will be kept automatically.

I would advice against using Excel for your lab book until you have more
familiarity with Excel. It would be sad to have data that you cannot access
because you are unfamiliar with Excel. Try reading an introductory book on
Excel and then you will know if it is suitable for your needs

I agree with the above. Also, you should keep hard copies of all lab
work, otherwise it is not possible to perform a proper audit trail (I was
a chemist in previous life). However, using one Excel workbook for input
and one for storage etc is very possible. There is a similar example
under the 'merging workbooks' section in my book (see below).

It's easy to inadvertently lose your entire Excel data,
unless you keep backups.
Like 2 mths work keying in cancer survival rate
data, by paid contract staff, and of course no backup.
Then someone changed the date format from US
mm/dd/yyyy to UK's dd/mm/yyyy and all was lost
Even Microsoft couldn't offer a way to recover the
original data.
