I have Excel 2007. Some of my files open and some do not. Why?

I have a new computer with Excel 2007 and Word 2007. When try to open files,
some open and some do not. This happens in Word and Excel. The files I am
trying to open are in 97-2003 Excel.
What am I doing wrong?
Help?
