Coillating tracking number list !

OK first like say this question is TUFF..i posted this in Ms Publisher
General AND Printing..NOone can figure it out (I used publisher to
import excel list into)

I am making receipts 4 to 1 page, and made tracking or order numbers for
each receipt, so on first 8.5x11 page be 1 receipt with say 001,then another
with 002 and another 003 and final 004... then 005,006,007,008 be on the next
page below
I accomplished this task just fine,however i realize when i cut the pages
into 4 stacks,the 4 piles are not in order...001 is on top 1 stack but 002 is
on the other, therefore i have to manualy sort them by hand later.
SO what i need is a methd template or formula to have te numbers run in
order DOWN the page not across.

(i ve searched all over for thisand i must say its stumping everyone)

James,

Please clarify: Your data is in XL in a list format (rows & columns)? You
are importing from XL to Publisher? Are you importing into a form of some
sort in Publisher (not familiar with publisher at all) that is setting up
these receipts in the print layout (4 to a page)?

Let me ask, after you import from XL to Pub, is the data that has been
transfered going to be deleted in XL or are you going to add new data to it?
If you are adding new data, are the receipts that have already been printed
going to be printed the next time around or are they getting marked so they
will not be printed the next time around (only new records get printed)?

If you can, please provide sample data with column/row lables and column
letters/row numbers.

You need to first know how many receipts there are before you can
number.
I assume this is avoid sorting i.e. the LH top stack needs to number
1,2,3,4,5 RH top 6,7,8,9,10 etc..

If you are using Publisher you can use the 'mail merge' function to
import the data.

YES IAM useing mail merge feature in Publisher, also can do it in word etc.
Already i made a colum on numers in excel.. ie. 1-100 and saved it to a
file that is mail merged into a document i am makeing 4 to 1 page, so one
page prints the 001 002 003 004 across it ..the problem is when i print out a
pile of pages and need to cut them in 4 stacks the numbers no longer in order
because of the stacks ..i need a way or list to make each stack in order
downward after i cut.
