Show grid in front of picture

I'm creating a family tree using Excel and wuold like to have a washed out
old pic as the background. In order to do this, I need all the grid lines to
show on top of this picture.

How do I put a picture behind everything including grid lines?

Thanks,
Rafy

Hi Rafy,

To put a picture behind everything including grid lines in Excel, you can follow these steps:
  1. Insert the picture you want to use as the background by clicking on the "Insert" tab and selecting "Pictures".
  2. Resize the picture to fit the Excel sheet by dragging the corners of the picture.
  3. Right-click on the picture and select "Format Picture".
  4. In the Format Picture pane, select "Picture" and then under "Image Control", adjust the "Transparency" slider to make the picture more transparent.
  5. Click on the "Size & Properties" tab and under "Properties", select "Move and size with cells".
  6. Click "Close" to exit the Format Picture pane.
  7. Go to the "View" tab and select "Page Layout" view.
  8. Right-click on the sheet and select "Gridlines" and then "View Gridlines".
  9. The gridlines should now be visible on top of the picture.

Check out Excel help for both "Background" and "watermark".

Background is under Format | Sheet. You may want to set the print area on
the worksheet since the background will show up multiple times.

I tried this and it doesn't work. I set the print area and get 4 logos
instead of one

Excel isn't real good at this kind of thing. It's tiling the picture to fill
the page.

Try setting it up as a watermark - at least in that setup you can adjust the
size of the picture and it only appears once per sheet.

More detail: with the watermark method, you adjust the picture size and such
while in the Header creator/editor.

You'll probably have to add borders to your cells to get them to show on top
of the photo.

Again, good luck.
