ToolsOptionsView.

Uncheck "row and Column headers.

Now in A7 enter =ROW() and copy down.

You can have all the rows numbered or none of the rows numbered.

If you don't want the rows numbered, you can use this (in xl2003):
Tools|Options|View Tab|Uncheck Row and column headers.

Yep, you'll lose the column letters/numbers, too if you use this.
