Pivot Chart Data Data range cannot be changed

I have created a Pivot Chart, but I am unable to change the Data Range when
I go to Select Data. (It's greyed out and unselectable.)

The help tells me I should be able to do that, as follows. Furthermore it
also seems to say that I only need to select the first cell when creating
the chart, but that's not true. A message appears saying I need at least 2
rows of data!!

From Help....
Click the PivotTable report .
1.. On the Options tab, in the Data group, click Change Data Source, and
then click Change Data Source.
The Change PivotTable Data source dialog box is displayed.

2.. Do one of the following:
a.. To use a different Microsoft Office Excel table or cell range, click
Select a table or range, and then enter the first cell in the Table/Range
text box.

Answer: Pivot Chart Data Data range cannot be changed

Hi Rob,

It sounds like you're having trouble changing the data range for your Pivot Chart. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:
  1. Make sure that your Pivot Table is selected. You should see the Pivot Table Tools tab appear in the ribbon.
  2. Click on the Analyze tab in the Pivot Table Tools tab.
  3. In the Data group, click on the Change Data Source button. This will open the Change PivotTable Data Source dialog box.
  4. In the dialog box, you should see the current data range for your Pivot Table. If you want to change the data range, click on the button next to the Table/Range text box.
  5. This will allow you to select a new range of cells for your Pivot Table. Once you've selected the new range, click on the OK button to close the dialog box.
  6. Your Pivot Table should now be updated with the new data range. If you go back to the Pivot Chart and click on the Select Data button, you should now be able to change the data range for your chart.

Hi Rob

You need to click on the Pivot Table, not the Pivot Chart, and then
OptionsChange Data source are available to you.

Pivot Chart Data Data range cannot be changed

Thanks Roger,

I see that is true now, and have finally understood the MS Help. One thing
I've noticed with the Excel Help function is that once you figure a problem
out yourself, (or through a group such as this) it finally makes sense.
