Text stored in a cell is displayed as a string of "#####..."
What do I need to do to get the stored text to display properly?

I agree, expand your column width...maybe. But that only displays when the
cell is formated as a number or similar, so make sure that your cell is formated for Text or General. Excel has a problem with string lengths between 255 and 1024 characters.

Negative dates/times will also show ##############
