Sorting Pivot Field List
I have some very large excel pivot tables that I use regularly. How can I
sort the field list into a fashion that makes sense to me? I would like to sort the list alphabetically is there a way? Also in excel 2003 you could browse through this list by pushing the letter e.g. "r' to browse through all fields starting with "r". does this functionality still exist in 2007? |
Sorting Pivot Field List
Normally a field list will be in alphabetical order. I assume however that
yours is not? Per chance is it mostly alphabetical with a bunch of items appended to the end out of order? If so then check out this link... http://www.contextures.com/xlPivot04.html -- HTH... Thanks Jim - Yes over time the field list has expanded and there is 300
calculated fields. I have an existing macro that clears out "dud" data items but I would like to somehow sort or group the fields within the list. Do you or does anyone else know of a way?? Thanks "Jim Thomlinson" wrote: Normally a field list will be in alphabetical order. I assume however that yours is not? Hi Craig,

I would like to sort the list alphabetically is there a way? I think your column in PT is not the first column. Excel sort at first the 1.column of the PT, next is the 2.column, but it sort for the entry in the first line of 1.column, than the next belonging of the entries in the first column ... If you wish to sort a special field, try to organise your PT, so that this field in the PT ist in the left side of the PT. regards Marion Also in excel 2003 you could browse through this list by pushing the letter e.g. "r' to browse through all fields starting with "r". does this functionality still exist in 2007? |

If you manually created any groups that include the old items, ungroup those
items. Drag the pivot field out of the pivot table. On the Pivot toolbar, click the Refresh button Drag the pivot field back to the pivot table (copied directly from the link I sent you) As new items are added to the field they do not automattically get sorted, but rather they are just appended. By following the above it will clear old items and resort the field... -- HTH...
