Running Virus Scan...

I had to reload Microsoft Office recently. Now when I open an existing Excel
spreadsheet it takes forever and has the message "Running Virus Scan..." in
the lower left corner. Why is it performing a virus scan?

The scan is being run in conjuction with your anti-virus software. This can
be disabled in the anti-virus software.

That would be a function of your AV application.

I would suggest that the re-installation of Office reset the scanner
preferences.

Disable the virus scan for Excel extensions through your AV application.
