Personal.xls only opening with new workbook, not with existing
 

Personal.xls is in the right path and opens, hidden, when I start with a new
workbook. However, when I open an existing workbook, I have to manually open
personal.xls. This problem started earlier this week and the workbooks I'm
using were created last year.

Just a guess...

I'd try reregistering excel:

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.
