duplicate workbooks open while working in that file

After having opened a workbook and entering data, a second and third
duplicate workbook opens while i'm still in the original workbook. Any
suggestions on how to correct this?

Sounds like you're looking at several "windows" of the same workbook. Does
the workbook name end in :1 and :2 and :3? If so, close the workbook WITH THE
X in the upper right corner. When this makes the :x disappear, save the
workbook

Are you saying that only the one workbook opens at first then later sometime you
get two duplicates come popping up?

Do these workbooks have a filename like myworkbook.xls:1 and myworkbook.xls:2
etc.?

In the latter case you have inadvertantly gone to WindowNew Window and created
new windows of that workbook.

Close the ones you don't want by hitting the "x" on the book title bar.

When you get down to one copy only, save.
