Sorehead

Large Digit Issues

When I try to put a string of 18 digits in a column (similar to this
350001660334434123) the last three digits change to 000 (making the number
350001660334434000), I have change the column to format in 'General' but this
throws up an error message and nothing else seems to give me what I need.
Any help would be appreciated.

Put apostrophe in front, Excel only retains 15 significant digits of a
number.

You have two options:

1. format the cells as Text before entering the values
2. enter an apostrophe as the first character typed

Format as text or precede the entry with an apostrophe '
If you look up specifications in help you will see that Excel
has 15 digits of precision and will truncate any digits after that to zero

You might have emphasized that both options produce text ;-)
