Default Font change won't take!

I'm working on an Excel spreadsheet filled with just number values. In order
to highlight a particular number, I tried to make it bold and in red colored
font. As soon as I move to another cell, however, the changes revert back to
unbold and black font. I've tried to format the cell to the way I want it.
I've tried to change the font and then hit save prior to moving to the next
cell, but cannot get the change to remain. Please, help!

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with formatting your Excel spreadsheet. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
  1. Make sure that the cells you want to format are selected. You can do this by clicking and dragging your mouse over the cells, or by clicking on the cell and then holding down the Shift key while clicking on other cells.
  2. Once you have the cells selected, try formatting them again. You can do this by right-clicking on the cells and selecting "Format Cells" from the menu that appears. Alternatively, you can use the formatting options in the Home tab of the Excel ribbon.
  3. In the Format Cells dialog box, make sure that the "Font" tab is selected. From here, you can choose the font, font size, and font color that you want to use. You can also make the text bold or italicized.
  4. Once you have made your formatting changes, click "OK" to close the Format Cells dialog box.
  5. Finally, make sure that you save your changes before moving on to another cell. You can do this by clicking on the "Save" button in the top left corner of the Excel window, or by using the keyboard shortcut

Default Font change won't take!

Check and see if the cell(s) have conditional formatting applied - that may
be what's forcing the color back to black when you leave it. In the menu bar:
Format | Conditional Formatting
see if there are any conditions applied.

You can also try selecting the cells and choosing
Clear | Formats and seeing if you can't set the color/bold property after
that. But any special number properties you had applied to them will also
disappear.

Default Locked fonts in Excel

This might help you:
1 - In Excel 2010 go to the Format Cells window by either:
Home tab Expand the Fonts group (bottom right)
OR right click on highlighted cells and click on Format Cells
2 - go to the Protection tab.
3 - If the Locked option is checked, then uncheck.

Hopefully this will resolve the issue.
