One way:

Format/Cells/Number/Custom: General;($0000.00)

Use Format | Cells ; open Custom; modify the format specs to:
$###0.00;($###0.00)

Click the Column Header for the column of data you wish to format
-Then
Click Format from the file menu
-Then
From the Format Cells dialogue box:
Select the Number Tab
Category = Currency
Decimal Places = 2
Symbol = $
Negative Numbers = ($1,234.10)
-Then
Click OK

Click the Column Header for the column of data you wish to format

Click Format from the file menu
-Then
From the Format Cells dialogue box:
Select the Number Tab
Category = Custom
Type = $###0.00_);[Red]($###0.00)
-Then
Click OK
