excel,word problems

I have a number of word and excel files in folders if I double click the
files fail to open and come up with the folder is not respondinhg. If i open
the program and double click they still wont open. The only way to get them
to open is open the application then from there go open, then the file all
works ok. I tried a repair, didn't work. I uninstalled and reinstalled still
didn't work. At my wits end and any help would be appreciated.

In windows explorer right click on an XL or word file, select properties and
look at the Opens With section on the General Tab. This is the program
associated with that file type. Change it as appropriate.

Sometimes one of these works when you're having trouble with double clicking on
the file in windows explorer:

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

--- or ---

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

Maybe one of these will work for you.

=======
For word, you'd use:
winword /unregserver
and
winword /regserver

If that doesn't help with MSWord, I'd ask in an MSWord forum.

tried both and neither work. beginning to wonder if it is something to do
with McAfee. Only other option is to wipe computer and start again, when I've
got a spare week!!!

Maybe you could post in an MSWord forum.
