on a pivot table is there a limit on columns for calulcated field

I am trying to do a pivot table with another column that has a calculated
item, If I have 10 columns nothing happens, if I delete one of those columns
the custom formula works and I have a new column with the custom formula. Is
there a way to make it work with all 10 columns?
