sum conditional
Alright. I'm trying to sum data entered into cells based on the drop down
selection of another cell. Cells B6, B16, B26, and B36 have drop down lists. Depending on the selection in any one of these drop down cells, corresponding subprocesses are filled in cells b7:b14, b17:b24, and so on. Data is then entered in cells c7:c14, c17:24, and so on, based upon the selection that has been made in each of the drop down lists. I want to SUM the data of a specific cell in each data range in a summary cell at the bottom of the worksheet. Example Cell B6: drop down option 1 is selected Data is entered in c7 Cell B16: drop down option 2 is selected Data is entered in c17 Cell B26: drop down option 1 is selected Data is entered in c27 Cell B36: drop down option 2 is selected Data is entered in c37 How would I sum up the data entered in cells according to the drop down selection that has been chosen? (Keeping in mind that multiple drop down options may be selected on a single worksheet). |

This will sum the C cells when the corresponding B cells equal 1:
=C7*(B6=1)+C17*(B16=1)+C27*(B26=1)+C37*(B36=1) I think you can see how to get the result for 2 best wishes -- Bernard V Liengme Microsoft Excel MVP www.stfx.ca/people/bliengme remove caps from email "JOE RR" wrote in message ... I tried this and I'm just getting a value of "0" in the summary cell.

I tested the formula before posting. So you need to check that there are
really numbers in the cells. Try =ISNUMBER(C7) and ISNUMBER(B6) If the test values are not really numbers use: =C7*(B6="1")+C17*(B16="1")+C27*(B26="1")+C37*(B36= "1") best wishes -- Bernard V Liengme Microsoft Excel MVP www.stfx.ca/people/bliengme remove caps from email "JOE RR" wrote in message ...
