how do I put ONLY an equal sign in a cell?

I would like to have a column of cells that only contain the " = " sign.

Alan

how do I put ONLY an equal sign in a cell?

Enter `= in the cell. The ` will show in the formula bar but not the cell.
The key for ` is on the top left under the escape key,

Alan.

On my XL2003, if I type an equal sign and then press Enter, the equal sign
appears in the cell. To repeat that in the cells under it, select the cell
with the equal sign, place your cursor on the tiny black square in the
bottom-right corner of that cell (cursor turns to a black plus sign), click
with the left mouse button and drag down as far as you need to.

well you were close. I put a single quote ( ' )in (under the " symbol) and
that seemed to work. The( ` ) symbol didn't do much for me. For reference
I am using 2007. but at least you pointed me in the right direction, thanks.
