after creating macro button, closed excel then restarted excel
 

Dave, sorry about taking so long to reply. ended up in hospital but ok now.
You were right about the .xlb's i found an old excel8.xlb. once i removed it
all went back to normal. Thanks for the superb advice. Hope i can return the
favor sometime.

There are a lot of Dave's around here and I'm sure all of them are happy you got
it working and are doing better now.
