Why don't my tab names show up?

I am using Excel X on a Mac OS X 10.3.9. For some reason a few days ago the
names on my sheet tabs stopped showing up. The tabs are there and when I
double click them, I can see and change the names, but otherwise they look
like they are blank. Is there a way to get them to show up again?
