is there something that someone has already done that does this without
having to share a work book, track changes/history and then wait to do this?

You might take a look at http://www.cpearson.com/excel/download.htm
Add-In utility allows you to compare the contents of two workbooks,
written by Myrna Larson and Bill Manville.
