'References' greyed out in VBA.

Followed instructions from below site to create a pop up calendar in VBA.
When I want to link a range of cells to this add in, the instructions say to
highlight the file you want to link to addin and go to toolsreferences.

This option is greyed out on my system and I can work out how to select it.
Any ideas?
