Excel freezes
 
When I click on either the bold, italic and underline icons on the excel
toolbar, the program freezes and stops.

Just a guess...

Do you use a network printer? If yes, try changing your windows default printer
to a local printer--even if it doesn't physically exist (just install a printer
driver).

You may want to try getting a fresh printer driver from the printer
manufacturer's site, too.

I've been trying for the past 2 weeks using help and even my company's IT
people but to no avail.
