Answer: Turn off auto recover in Excel 2007

Yes, it is possible to turn off auto recover saving in Excel 2007. Here are the steps to do it:
  1. Open Excel 2007 and click on the Office button in the top left corner.
  2. Click on the Excel Options button at the bottom of the menu.
  3. In the Excel Options window, click on the Save tab.
  4. Under the Save workbooks section, uncheck the box next to "Save AutoRecover information every X minutes."
  5. Click OK to save the changes.

That's it! Auto recover saving is now turned off in Excel 2007. Keep in mind that this means you will not be able to recover unsaved work in case of a power outage or other unexpected event, so be sure to save your work regularly.

Dont have 2007 to hand but in 2003 this is done in the Tools, Options menu
under the save tab.
There must be something similar in 2007 for options.

In Excel 2007, click the Office button (the big round button in the top left
of the window) and choose Excel Options at the bottom of the menu. There,
choose the Save page and uncheck the "Save auto-recovery" option in the
"Save Workbooks" section of the page.
