can't insert a column, can't shift columns off the sheet.
I have some week ending utilization figures in columns, for example 5/19,
6/1, 6/9, 6/16,6/23 & 6/30 and a 6 week average column. The columns are z, aa, ab, ac, ad, & ae with af being the 6 week average. I have to add a column but when I do insert-- column I get the error "cannot shift objects off the sheet". So I thought that inserting a column between ae and af I would get the error because of the formula in af. But I thought I would try inserting a column at the beginning and moving it to AE but I can't insert any columns. I get the error message I can't insert and there are plenty of columns left in the sheet I'm only using up to AK. tia, |

Apparently you have "something" on the right of the sheet that prevents the
insertion of new columns. If you are sure that there is no need to keep the actuals column AG-IV, simply select all of them and delete them. This may remove the "object" and allow you to insert new columns wherever you want. Stephane. |

I need to keep all the columns. I tried moving the formula over one column
in af from z:ae to aa:af. Then I added that formula to every used cell in the columnaf. It still wouldn't let me add a new AF column so I could do the average in AE. Now what do I do. The object turned out to be a filter. I removed the filter. Thanks.

Your problem is still the same, Excel inserts a column for you when you
insert a column, but to do this all the columns to the right have to move over one. Because you have some information in the last column to the right (IV) then Excel cannot insert a column for you. the answer to your problem is to move the information you have in column IV to a column further to the left such as BB etc and then you have freed up a space for Excel to insert a column.
