formatting cells for time

Thanks for the response that I received from Stefi, and I apologise for being
a bit "thick", but after I formatted/custom and entered mm:ss.00 into the
type box and clicked on OK, what is the correct way to enter the data so the
it will register that it is a time ie do I use forward slashes (/), or dots
(.) or colons (:), or semi colon (;)
Thanks for your help and my apologies again
Terrie

Enter as the format:

03:54.76 with the dot

in the formula bar the above will appear as 00:03:35 (hh:mm:ss) with the
seconds rounded.
