Create a database query that does not reference an IP address.
I have a spreadsheet that has a database query. The database is on a
Machine Server. I created the query by going to Data--Import External Data--New Database Query... Everything works great...except... When you create the query, you choose the alias of the server (call it ABC) but, Excel actually stores the IP address of the server when you create a query in this way. What happened to me is that the server's IP address changed while the alias remained the same. The result is that my query no longer worked. Even when editing the query I could not fix it because it referenced the alias of "ABC" which, was still correct...it was the hidden IP address that I needed to (but cannot) change. The solution was that I had to delete the query and recreate it. The problem with this is that this query is proliferated through copies of the spreadsheet for various projects...thus, every single spreadsheet created to date must be modified. So finally...here is the question. How may I create a database query that references ONLY the alias of the Machine ODBC database and not the IP address? Thanks |
