Another book.xls issue
I did search through all of the hits for book.xls and tried some of the
solutions just in case but none worked. Somehow, in Excel 2003, I managed to save the book.xls with a document included. Now whenever I open Excel I get the document with the filename book.xls and I am informed that it is in use by myself and canonly be opened as "Read Only". Not matter what I try I cannot get it back to the original book.xls. I tried wiping the document out of book.xls leaving a blank workbook/sheet but it won't let me save over it so I saved it as a "copy of book.xls" with the intention of manually deleting the bad copy and adding my new one, once I renamed it book.xls. No deal either. I checked the properties of the bad book.xls and it does not indicate read-only there....but when I open it or try to replace it.....no dice. Any suggestions? Jack |

Could be you have a file named book.xls in your XLstartup directory. Or it
might be being called by a WorkbookOpen macro. I do but I cannot get rid of it. I cannot delete it even when Excel is
closed and after a reboot. It is not called for preloading on the General tab either. And I do not recall any macros I have written to call it up. The file book1.xls is located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART My mistake... the file is book1.xls not book.xls......but it opens whenever I open Excel as read only. Thanks a the quick response! "CLR" wrote: Could be you have a file named book.xls in your XLstartup directory. Or it might be being called by a WorkbookOpen macro. With Excel closed you should be able to delete, or move it to a non used
directory somewhere.......otherwise, maybe you can change it's extention to xxx or something like that..... Vaya con Dios, Chuck, CABGx3 "Jack_Feeman" wrote: I do but I cannot get rid of it. I went to try your suggestions...no deal. Then it dawned on me...maybe there
is another copy of Excel running in the back ground. So I opened Task Manager and even though I had exited Excel through the FileExit method there was another copy running inthe background. So now I am going to reboot again and see if it opens two copies again. Thanks for your time and quick responses.
