Vlookup bringing back #N/A

This is my formula:

=VLOOKUP(A1,'[Czech Republic IDP''s for 2007_5-21-07.xls]Month by
Month'!$A$1:$H$11,2,FALSE)

A1 is spelt exactly the same (May) in the lookup spreadsheet and is is the
first column, but it brings back #N/A

What might be wrong?

thanks for any advise

Check there are no extra blanks in the data.

What's in A1--is it a date formatted to only show the month?
How about in the table?

Maybe the dates are really different (may 22 vs may 18???)

If it's just text, look for leading/trailing spaces in either/both locations.
