Hyperlink to Word / HTLM bookmark in Excel 2007

Hi there

When linking to a Word or HTML bookmark from an Excel 2007 cell, the
document opens but not on the bookmark. Does anyone know what causes this
behavior and how it can be corrected?

We are facing upgrade problems from Office XP to Office 2007, and this is a
nasty one.

Many thanks in advance!

Answer: Hyperlink to Word / HTLM bookmark in Excel 2007

Hi there!

When you create a hyperlink to a Word or HTML bookmark from an Excel 2007 cell, the document should open on the bookmark you specified. However, if it's not opening on the bookmark, there could be a few reasons for this behavior. Here are some possible solutions:
  1. Make sure the bookmark name is correct: Double-check the name of the bookmark in the Word or HTML document and make sure it matches the name you specified in the hyperlink in Excel. If the names don't match, the document won't open on the correct bookmark.
  2. Use the full path to the bookmark: Instead of just specifying the bookmark name in the hyperlink, try using the full path to the bookmark. For example, if the bookmark is in a Word document located in "C:\My Documents\Bookmarks.docx" and the bookmark name is "MyBookmark", the hyperlink in Excel should be:
    Formula:

    "file:///C:/My%20Documents/Bookmarks.docx#MyBookmark"

. Note that you need to use forward slashes (/) instead of backslashes (\) in the path, and you need to encode spaces as %20.
  3. Check the security settings: If the Word or HTML document is located on a network drive or the internet, Excel may be blocking the hyperlink for security reasons. To check the security settings, go to the Excel Options menu, click Trust Center, and then click Trust Center Settings. Under the External Content section, make sure the "Enable all data connections" and "Enable automatic update for all workbook links" options are selected.

I hope one of these solutions works for you!

I have same question. One document suggested that you should copy the
bookmark and paste it in excel cell. Howvere, there is no way to copy the
bookmark in a word document.

You can select any file to hyperlink to in the Insert Hyperlink dialog. To
link to a particular bookmark in a Word document, don't click on the Bookmark
button. Excel will reply with this warning: Microsoft Excel could not open
this file or could not parse a file of this type. You can specify the
bookmark by adding it yourself, appending an octothorpe (pound sign) plus the
bookmark name to the path and file name.

C:\My Documents\MyDocument.doc#MyBookmark
To link to a particular page in a Word document, simply append a pound sign
and the page number after the document path and file name:

C:\My Documents\MyDocument.doc#4
