Moving in spreadsheet without clicking the mouse

Don't know why the cells are automatically highlighted when moving the cursor
without clicking the mouse.
When it happens, i try to close Excel program or select function keys, but
the computer doesn't response. And i have to close it by alt-ctr-del.
There is no problem when i use arrow keys, or use the mouse in Word,
Powerpoint.
Very frustrated. Could somebody help?
Thx.

Most often caused by hitting the F8 key and putting yourself into "Extended
Mode".

If you see EXT on status bar hit F8 again to clear.

Another fix can be tapping, quite vigorously, the wheel on your wheelie-mouse a
few times.
