Is there a way to copy more than 255 characters in a cell when copying into a
new workbook?

Make sure both workbooks are opened in the same instance of excel.

Open the first workbook anyway you want.
File|open the second workbook

Then do the copy|paste.

The error message you get when you copy an entire sheet with this issue to
another workbook suggests that you copy the cells instead of or in addition
to copying the sheet. Doesn't this work?

This problem was fixed in Excel 2007, btw.
