Hyperlink bugs
 

I made several dozen charts, in various Excel files, and then used a master
Excel spreadsheet that contained hyperlinks to those charts.

First weirdness was that the links would not work if their designation was
too long. After I shortened the file names, they worked - for a while. When
the master file was copied, the links did not work in the copy. Later, they
stopped working altogether in the original sheet.

Does anyone have any insight into what Microsoft did this time, or know of a
source that discusses this?

not sure, but it might have to do with the length going over 64, 128 or 256
characters. Especially pathnames may give difficulties. Did you copy the
master file to a different folder? If so, move it to the old folder and check
if it works. Not sure, but worth a try.
