Keeps changing the format

Hi i input data onto a spreadsheet to record the pass marks ie 101/110 92%
5 44/50 88%
4 40/40 100%
8 77/80 96%
9 77/90 86%
2 3/5 60%
the one that i entererd in last should read 12/20 but it keeps changing the
format to a date or 3/5 I have tried to clear all formats and re enter. I
have also tried to format the cells to different formats including General,
fraction and custom ?/? and it still keeps putting in a date 12 dec or other
figures that do not equate to 12/20
can anyone advise me what i need to do to stop this from happening.

If your 12/20 is intended merely to be a text entry, and not to be used as
numbers for calculation, then format the cell as text before you type the
text in. It might, however be cleaner to enter the data in 2 columns. Your
12 could be in B6 and your 20 in C6. If you want to display it as a ratio
you could use =B6&"/"&C6, and then your percentage can be calculated as
=B6/C6, formatted as percentage.
