i save a file from Sage Payroll in csv format to use with my banking
software. this has always run smoothly.
i have saved it in exactly the same way today but it has saved around 50% of
the sort codes as dates e.g sort code 09-06-40 now shows as 09/06/1940 when i
try to format the sort code cells as custom 000000 it comes back with a
figure of 014771????????????? i am baffled.... someone please help!!!!!

Hi Kaitlin

14771 is the serial date for 09/06/1940
If you rename the .csv file to a .txt file, and then try to open in
Excel, it will go through the DataText to Columns Wizard.
In the Third step, choose the column with the Bank sort codes, and
select Text.

Can you use Data==Import External data and use the Text Import Wizard to set
your Sort Code field to TEXT?
