Reformatting dates for sorting

I have a column full of various dates that look like: 6/1/07 but they are
typed into the cell as 6107 and an input mask adds the slashes.

Because of this setup, I can't sort the dates.

Is there a way for me to reformat these dates so they can be sorted as dates
without retyping all of them by hand?

Can you give an example of how the dates are listed?

1107 = 1/1/07
11107 = 1/11/07 or 11/1/07
111007 = 1/10/07

And on top of Barb's questions:

is 1/11/07
January 11, 2007
or
November 1, 2007
or
even worse...
January 7, 1911
or
January 7, 2011???
