Retrieve unsaved file

I was updating a large Excel file today with many manual entries and did the
ultimate mistake of failing to save periodically. Big rainstorm and
electricity shut down. Are there any hidden temporary files floating around
someplace (such as cache or some other strange filename) where I might find a
backup of a recent copy of it? I tried searching for files modified today
and files with "~" in the filename, but found nothing I could recognize.
Windows XP Home Edition, SP2. Excel 2000, SP3.

Nope. If you didn't save it, it's gone.

By the way, xl2002 added a feature called autorecovery that would have worked
perfectly for you (if you had it turned on). It saves a copy every x minutes
(your choice) and if excel/windows crashes, it will offer you a chance to
recover that file the next time you open excel.
