Subtotal won't group

Usually, when I use the subtotal function under the Data menu, I am
able to group the subtotals. I am not able to do it in one file. Is
there a reason why? TIA

Chuck, that was the case, but I changed them to actual numbers and it
still won't group.

Sometimes, for some reason, it's really really hard to actually convert from
TEXT over to numbers, even though it APPEARS as though the change has
occured, it may not have actually done it.......try setting up a small sample
to test and actually type the numbers in place and check the grouping......if
it works there and still doesn't on your original data, then the conversion
has not actually taken place.

Chuck, I found the answer. There is an option under the Tools/Options/
View menu where there are windows options and the check box "outline
symbols" needs to be checked. I never encountered this before and now
I know. Thanks for your suggestion about the text to numbers.
