Charts - Custom Types - Line Column - Data Series
 

How do I swich data from being displayed as a column rather than a line in a
Line-Column chart? I have 6 data series and would like the first 4 in the
chart displayed as columns and the second two as lines using the same y axis,
but right now Excel has defaulted the first two as columns and the second two
as lines and I cannot make the changes I need.

Any thoughts?

In the chart Select the series you want to change and then go to <chart
<chart type and select what you want it to do Each series can be different

Right-click on the line you want to have displayed as a column, then select
"Chart Type" from the drop down box. Then walk through the wizard and modify
the chart as you like.

Thanks Jon,

I was able to change the data series from a line to a column by
right-clicking the series and selecting <chart type then <column; however,
the column overlaps the other three series which are displayed as columns.
Any ideas on how I can get the series to display to the right of the last
column rather than overlapping it and the others?

Charts - Custom Types - Line Column - Data Series
 

Right click on your column and select "Format Data Point"

There is an Options tab which will allow you to adjust the overlap and gap
width. Play with these until you get the chart that pleases you.

try also right clicking on the new column and selecting the axis tab, change
to the other axis from the one curreently selected.

Next time, avoid the built-in custom types (with a name like "built-in
custom", they couldn't possibly work right), and build your own combination
chart. Create the chart with all six series as the more prevalent type in
the chart (columns). Select one series you want to change, do the Chart menu
Chart Type thing that bj and JonR told you about, then select the other
and use the F4 shortcut to repeat this action. Then double click one of the
series you need on the secondary axis, and on the Axis tab, select
Secondary, as bj described, then select the other and use the F4 shortcut to
repeat this action.

Building your own combination chart hardly takes longer than using the
built-in ones, and you retain control over its individual series.
