Updating tables from Excel in Word

My boss is using Office 2003; he has linked tables from excel to word, but
when I open and fix those tables in Excel 2007, the changes do not show in
the Word Document.
Why?

Updating tables from Excel in Word

In Word, go to: Tools - Options - General "General Options" make sure
"Update automatic links at open" is checked. Might work.
