Custom Cell Format
 

I am using Excel 2003 and trying to customize the cells with leading zeros.
It works in the current workbook but when I try to save the woorkbook as an
xlt file it disappears. I have tried to save as Book.xlt, Book1.xlt and
Sheet.xlt. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what does the custom format show before you save it and after you save it?

The custom format shows: 000000 (six zeros). After I close Excell and open
it again it disappears.

Works for me depending upon the numbers entered.

What does your custom formatting look like?

0 will return 01 if one digit entered.

00 will return 011 if two digits entered or 001 if one digit entered.

Do you want a single preceding 0 no matter the length of the numeric entered?

I'm not aware of any way to do that with custom formatting but hang
in.........someone may know how.

Where are you saving the templates?

If you store them in your XLSTART folder as BOOK.xlt and SHEET.xlt they will be
the default New workbook and InsertSheet

How are you opening the New workbook?

FileNew...Blank workbook will give you the Excel default workbook with no
formatting.

Hit the FileNew(no ellipsis) to open a new workbook based on your BOOK.xlt in
XLSTART folder

Or hit the New Icon on the Toolbar.

I just cannot replicate your problem.

I also use 2003
when I save a template witrh custom formatting it is there when I open it.
Have you reinstalled Excel?
I can't duplicate your problem

Still does not work. If I go to C:\Documents and Settings\Cosmo\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates and click on the Book it works.

Maybe you have BOOK.xlt in the wrong XLSTART folder.

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

The path I posted is the correct path to store BOOK.xlt
