Embedded Word doc containing text form field
 

I have embedded a word document in one of my Excel worksheets. This is a
protected document with text form fields that can still be filled in.
However, we just discovered that when you "edit" the word document in Excel
as opposed to "open" it, you cannot use your backspace key or your arrow keys
in the text field. You can use your mouse to click in the field, but that's
not ideal. It seems to work fine if you "open" it since that actually
launches the Word application.

Does anyone know why this is and how to get around it in Excel? There are
several other worksheets in this workbook that are in Excel so we embedded
the word document to keep all the information together.

I just embedded a word 2003 document in an Excel 2003 worksheet. (I copied from Word, and
used Paste special - Word object in Excel). When I double-clicked to edit it, the
backspace and arrow keys worked fine. You don't say what you mean by " field." I used
ordinary text, including a table.

Hi Earl,

The Word document I've pasted contains form "text fields" (they show up as a
small grey box when you insert these in Word). When I protect the document,
I've set the editing restrictions to "Filling in forms" so you can only enter
text in these "text field" areas. I don't want the users changing the other
areas of the document. You can still click on these text field areas to
enter text once you paste this document into Word, but you just can't
backspace or use your arrow keys to move around in these fields, even after
you've typed some text.

Does that make more sense?
