when I hit the return key, the cell does not change and I type over last
input. I must use the up or down arrow to change the cell location.
Has anybody else had this problem?

Do the following:

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
The Options dialog box is displayed.
2. Click the Edit tab.
3. Under Settings, select the "Move selection after Enter" check box.
4. Click OK, to return to the Sheet.
