Fitting cell to typed word

Excel 2002, I have opened a data base the cells have been set for 25 but my
names are only 6 letters long. When I do a column width adjustment it still
stays at 25.
I can manually shrink each cell by clicking on the cell and placing my
cursor at the end of the word and delete the blanks. But is there a way to do
this for the complete data base?

Do you have any hidden rows that contain longer text?

How about long headers?

I just read David's response.

If your words in that column don't contain any embedded spaces, maybe you could:

Select the column
edit|Replace
what: (spacebar)
with: (leave blank)
replace all

No Hidden headers or rows that contain text. Just blank spaces after each
word, not allowing me to shrink the cell. But I can go to each cell and
delete the blank spaces and it will work. But I need a way to do the complete
data
